Take Action for Animals: Ohio
Two minutes can make a real difference in the lives of companion animals by speaking up for puppies over profits! Throughout North America, more than 75 jurisdictions have passed legislation banning the sale of commercially bred animals (primarily dogs and cats), which encourages retailers that opt to sell animals to source them from rescue organizations and/or shelters. These ordinances promote animal welfare and expose the harms perpetuated by the puppy mill industry.

Bill HB 166 is now pending in Ohio. HB 166 includes an amendment that voids current laws prohibiting pet stores from selling puppy mill dogs, weakening the existing standards. If Ohio Senators pass this bill, stores will be allowed to obtain puppies from some of the worst puppy mills in the country. Worse yet, this bill also restricts cities in Ohio from regulating pet stores in the future. Federal Courts have consistently upheld such local ordinances as lawful and effective means for communities to protect the public from consumer fraud, promote animal welfare, and fight the puppy mill industry.

It protects the puppy mill industry by prohibiting cities in Ohio from regulating pet stores, and weakens the standards.”
