U-Turns: Bloodroot Restaurant & Bookshop- Connecticut
As CLAWtheory has hit the road, we’ve made some happy discoveries and encountered some wonderful veg dining experiences and fabulous people. Since current estimates suggest that only about 7% of the U.S. population maintains a vegetarian or vegan diet, we’re willing to make U-Turns when we find places as cool as Bloodroot Restaurant in Bridgeport, Connecticut! Thank you for cooking with compassion and helping the 7% crowd feel 100% connected.
Bloodroot Restaurant and Bookshop offers guests a truly one of a kind experience. The values behind the delicious meals are evident throughout the space. In addition to posters reflecting a rich history in feminist & vegetarian activism, you’ll find interesting books, news and upcoming activities, classes and events. Bloodroot is much more than a terrific dining experience – it’s a community space where you’ll feel the energy from the moment you enter. Entering its 30th year (YES- 30!), this feminist restaurant – bookstore features inspired seasonal vegetarian (vegan friendly) menus for lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. From home baked bread to tasty specials, there are plenty if vegan friendly choices, too. Visit when you have time to explore – you’re going to love it.
In addition to a warm, inviting dining space, Bloodroot is beautifully situated on the bay. From the extensive patio seating, the peaceful atmosphere is as fantastic as the food.
If you’re looking for a place to join family & friends for you’ll be grateful for a visit to Bloodroot Restaurant. This fine establishment has made our travels happier, and we think they’ve made the world a nicer place, too. One taste of their soul-satisfying food and maybe your non-veg friends and family may make a veg life U-Turn, too.
About U-Turns
Though one recent poll suggests there are more than 7 million vegetarians/vegans in the U.S., it’s easy to feel isolated when you’re part of (roughly) 7% of the population. One recent report revealed that “a large majority of former vegetarians/vegans (63%) said that they disliked that their diet made them stick out from the crowd.” That inspired CLAWtheory to give a big thanks to some of the awesome people and places we’ve discovered on the road who are making veg life better, and U-Turns was born.
While we have enjoyed veg meals at many veg-friendly establishments, the U-Turns list is restricted to vegetarian and vegan restaurants. While we appreciate veg-friendly menus, food that’s made by and for veg folks is usually off the happy charts. This list is not intended as a complete guide or as a review – we haven’t been everywhere (and probably won’t get everywhere). We simply want to offer a deeply heartfelt thank you to the places and folks we’ve found and are excited to share.
